Under the Dome - February 28th, 2018

Friends,

Have a great week!

Life's all about relationships. Here's my friend, Maryland District 2 Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger, signing up for re-election. Great Ocean City friend, both former OC summer police officer and OCBP lifeguard.

With the support of great friends and our constituents, I’ve signed up to be your voice and representative in Maryland District 38. Respectfully asking for your continued support and vote.

University of Maryland Eastern Shore President Juliette Bell and Vice President Kim Dumpson, outside the Maryland Senate building after their UMES budget hearing. President Bell recently has announced her retirement. Thanks for your dedication and hard work!

Here I am introducing Michelle Fager at the Maryland Senate Executive Nominations Board, of which I am a member, to act upon her nomination by Governor Hogan to the Maryland State Lottery Commission. Joined here by her husband, my friend, John Fager.

Senator Justin Ready from Carrol County delivering the Lincoln Day speech, an annual tradition. Excellent job, Senator!

Senator Joan Carter Conway, telling the story of Rosa Parks, as part of Black History Month.

Here I am with Governor Hogan and Senate President Mike Miller at an emergency bill signing that takes away the parent rights of convicted rapists.

I discussed with bike safety leaders my upcoming bill, SB 850, “Complete Streets,” incorporating safe bike lanes throughout Maryland.

I was joined in my Senate office by advocates for working families as they discuss raising the minimum wage to $15 in Maryland.

Correctional officers and AFSME members testifying on my bill, SB 48, that focuses on workman’s compensation for correctional officers. This is a very important quality-of-life bill for our correctional officers.

Here we are with Senator Mac Middleton, James Fisher and Holly Porter from Delmarva Poultry Industry, celebrating Chicken Day in Annapolis. This is a critically important cornerstone industry for the Eastern Shore and for Maryland. I was also joined in celebrating Chicken Day by Bill Massey from Mountaire Farms, Cathy Basset from Allen Harim, Herb Frerichs from Perdue.

Here I am testifying on SB 385 to bring parity and affordability to patients who require diagnostic breast examinations. I was joined by Dr. Katherine Tkaczuk, head of the breast cancer unit at the University of Maryland Medical System, and advocates.

Presenting my bills before Senate Rules. Pleased to say mine were successfully passed. At the head of the table is Sen. Kathy Klausmeier, the Senate Rules Committee chairwoman.

Here are our Pages in the Senate Chamber. Another fabulous group of Senate Pages gathering to discuss the very lively morning debates!

Here I am with Delegate Joseline Peña-Melnyk and Delegate Aruna Miller. They have corresponding bills regarding diagnostic breast examinations in the House of Delegates, HB 282, to match mine in the Senate, SB 385.

We’re welcoming fire chiefs from across Maryland for their evening reception. Featured are fellow legislators and leadership of the Maryland Fire Chiefs Association, as well as the Fire Queen.

Seated at the table is Maryland Health Department Secretary Bobby Neall, addressing health care concerns on the Eastern Shore, as well a progress report from Mary Beth Waide of Deer’s Head Hospital Center in Salisbury.

Welcoming our friends from the Tourism Industry throughout Maryland — a $3 BILLION industry responsible for thousands of jobs! I’m among great friends here, including Melanie Pursel from the Ocean City Chamber of Commerce, Donna Abbott with Ocean City’s tourism office, and Lisa Challenger from the Worcester County tourism office.

Senator Will Smith, co-chair of the the Senate Veteran’s Caucus, speaking on veteran’s legislation.

We are blessed every day to have visitors from throughout Maryland, our nation, and around the world. Pictured here are Boy Scouts learning more about Maryland and its rich history. Please come visit us “Under The Dome!”

Thanks for a great night at our Pep Rally, kicking off our election campaign. Featuring our Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan, OC Councilman Dennis Dare, and Dr. Lynn Duffy of Pocomoke City. Thanks so much for your friendship and support!

Here we are at the Country Breakfast for Eastern Shore farmers, hosted by Worcester Technical School! Here you'll see three generations of Worcester County farming, represented with the Hudson family, working hard to keep family farms alive and growing on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. We are so blessed to have Worcester Technical High School supporting our trades and vocations, and our future trade, tech, farming, and all professionals, to keep us well on the Shore.

Celebrating my dear friend Ethel Bernice Blake on her 80th birthday, proud to present my Senate Citation and Governor’s Citation from Larry Hogan. She had more than 100 friends and family in attendance! God bless you Bernice!

Having a great time at Showell Fire Company with my dear friend Miss Ida, check out that beautiful smile, and all the smiles of everyone having a great time at the Oyster Roast! This is how we do it on the Eastern Shore with friends and family!
